If you’ve got a Samsung device, then you may have been prompted to use Samsung Pass. But what does this actually do?

Samsung’s electronics, including smartphones such as the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Galaxy Tab S8, are immensely popular, and boast exclusive features. One such feature is Samsung Pass, and you might often find yourself prompted to sign into it whenever you start up a new Samsung device. But what is it, exactly?

Samsung Pass is a feature exclusive to Samsung devices, which lets you log into accounts, apps, and websites, via biometric information (such as your fingerprint, iris, or with facial recognition), rather than typing in a password. You can also add personal information such as your home address or card details to Samsung Pass for ease of use.

How do you register for Samsung Pass?

Registering with Samsung Pass is a simple process; just go into your Samsung phone’s Settings app, then tap on Biometrics and Security and scroll down to Samsung Pass. Follow the prompts to register your biometrics on the service so that you can use them with different websites or apps.

How can you use Samsung Pass?

Once registered with Samsung Pass in the method described above, with your biometric information stored on the platform, you’ll be prompted to use your fingerprint, face or iris, to log in to the relevant website instead of using your password. However, some apps will restrict the specific biometrics that you’re allowed to use on their platform, for instance only allowing fingerprints rather than iris scans or facial recognition.

How can you manage or delete your data on Samsung Pass?

If you change your mind about storing your personal information on Samsung Pass, then it’s simple to delete or manage the data that is stored there.

On your Samsung phone, go into the Settings app, scroll down to Biometrics and Security, and tap on Samsung Pass. Once logged in to Samsung Pass, you should see a list of all the apps that you’ve given permission to use Samsung Pass; simply view, edit, or delete your data for each of these as you wish.

If you want to delete all your data, go to the Menu in Samsung Pass, tap on Settings, and choose Delete Data.

What are the alternatives to Samsung Pass?

They are other similar password manager tools available.

The ‘Sign in with Apple‘ tool works along the same lines as Samsung Pass, letting you access participating websites and apps through biometrics associated with your Apple ID (including Face ID and Touch ID) rather than your password. A unique touch is ‘Hide my Email’, a feature that creates a unique random email address that forwards mail to you so you don’t have to share your genuine personal information with a website or service.
