The next generation of graphics cards is right around the corner, with the Nvidia RTX 4000 Series set to be announced in the coming weeks.

At launch, the range could be made up of the RTX 4090, RTX 4080, RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 graphics cards. Every card will feature the ‘Lovelace’ architecture.

The new architecture is expected to be built upon TSMC’s 5nm node, according to Chinese publication Digitimes. This signals a big upgrade on the existing RTX 3000 (Ampere) architecture, which uses TSMC’s older 7nm node.

Release date

The Nvidia RTX 4000 Series is expected to be officially unveiled on the 20 September 2022.

Nvidia has revealed it will be hosting a special broadcast called “GeForce Beyond” on this date, and while it hasn’t been confirmed that the new graphics cards will be the focus of the showcase, we reckon it’s highly likely.

Don’t expect every new RTX 4000 Series card to be available immediately. VideoCardz reports that the RTX 4090 could launch in September 2022, the RTX 4080 in October 2022 and the RTX 4070 in November 2022.

Price

Nvidia hasn’t revealed the official prices of its next-gen graphics cards, but we’ve got our fingers crossed that the company will stick to the same price points as its existing range. 

The Founders Edition of the RTX 3070 has a £469 RRP, while the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 cost £649 and £1399 respectively. 

It’s possible that Nvidia will hike up the prices given the recent silicon shortage and rise of inflation.

Specs

The Nvidia RTX 4000 Series graphics cards are expected to be based on TSMC’s 5nm process node, which should see an increased performance compared to the RTX 3000 series that use a 8nm process node. A smaller process node allows Nvidia to squeeze more transistors onto the GPU, resulting in a faster performance.

Nvidia will likely focus on improving the efficiency of the likes of ray tracing and DLSS too, as both remain very important features for GeForce graphics cards. 

It’s difficult to pin down the exact specs (such as CUDA Cores) of each graphics card, as so many different figures have been reported and ‘leaked’ over the past few weeks.

One thing that all the different reports appear to agree on is that Nvidia will be increasing the CUDA Core count across the board. TweakTown suggests the RTX 4090 card could have 16,384 CUDA Cores.

The RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 have also been touted to see an increase of memory, albeit with the GDDR6X standard.
